India to finally get Asia Cup Trophies? BCCI Gives Big Update amid Mohsin Naqvi Controversy

India's back-to-back Asia Cup triumphs have been accompanied by an unusual trophy situation, with neither the men's nor women's teams currently in possession of their respective silverware.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has now assured that both trophies will eventually reach India following the latest controversy involving Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has assured that India will receive both the men s and women s Asia Cup trophies amid the Mohsin Naqvi controversy

The Indian women's team defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women's Asia Cup 2026 final in Dubai on Sunday to win a record-extending eighth title. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and her teammates did not attend the trophy presentation because Naqvi was scheduled to hand over the silverware.

The decision followed a similar episode involving the Indian men's team after their Asia Cup triumph in 2025. On both occasions, the BCCI had maintained that India's position was linked to the prevailing circumstances and that participation in a multi-nation tournament was separate from the trophy presentation.

Saikia revealed that the BCCI had informed the ACC beforehand that India would not participate in the ceremony if Naqvi presented the trophy. The board had also proposed that ACC deputy chairman Khalid Al Zarooni hand over the silverware, but the proposal was not accepted.

"We communicated with ACC and yesterday I personally informed the ACC chairman that we won't be part of the presentation ceremony if it is done in the same manner as done in case of the men's cricket team, they did not want to change their position so we had no option," Saikia said.

Despite the continuing dispute, the BCCI secretary insisted that India would eventually receive both pieces of silverware.

"We can assure very soon we will not only get the Women's Asia Cup trophy but also the Men's Asia Cup trophy," Saikia added.

The latest development means India could eventually receive both trophies through official ACC channels, even though neither team collected the physical silverware immediately after their respective victories.
