India to press for win, pitch will deteriorate: Ganguly

Bangalore, Dec 10 (UNI) Double centurion Sourav Ganguly today said the pitch at M Chinnaswamy stadium will be ''tricky'' to bat for the Pakistani lower order batsmen on the last two days and India would press for a win in the third and final Test.

Talking to newspersons after the third day's play, the former India captain said the morning session tomorrow will be important for the hosts and they were determined to force a result from this match.

''We have got the runs and will go for the kill,'' said Ganguly who struck career-best 239 to help India pile up a huge 626 all out in the first innings.

He said the team conceded the highest extras of 70 runs due to the pitch condition which made it difficult for the wicket-keeper and Dinesh Karthik need not be blamed for it.

India conceded the highest number of extras -- 70 -- in its Test cricket history, ten runs more than it did against England in 1979.

Ganguly expressed confidence that India will perform well on the tour of Australia as they have a strong batting line up.

''The problems of injuries to our speedsers will end soon. All the frontline bowlers like Zaheer Khan, R P Singh, Munaf Patel will be ready for the tour in time and I am confident they will make their mark. Pathan and Ishant Sharma are also doing very well,'' he said.

Ganguly said the team need not depend too much on the two spinners -- Kumble and Harbhajan -- at all times as it had a good battery of fast bowlers.

''We have enough firepower and should depend more on the speedsters.'' The Bengal southpaw said he was happy to be used as a stop gap arrangement to give breather to the main bowlers.

''I am not a main bowler. You can say that I am the fifth bowler in the team. I am happy that I am getting some breakthroughs for the team,'' he said.

Ganguly added he was happy to get the double hundred at last and said his innings was all the more valuable as it came at a time when India were struggling at 61 for four and went on to make a mammoth total.

He said making a comeback after an eight-month gap after the public spat with former India coach Greg Chappell did not make any difference on his game.

''I was always playing well and I just continued it when I was recalled,'' he said.
