India U-19 Captain Ayush Mhatre Slams Maiden Youth Test Century Against England On Day 1 Of 1st Test

India's Under-19 skipper Ayush Mhatre made a resounding statement on Day 1 of the first Youth Test against England, smashing a sensational century at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. The 17-year-old opener from Mumbai played with flair and authority, registering his maiden Youth Test hundred in just 115 deliveries.

Mhatre looked in sublime touch from the outset, finding gaps with precision and dispatching anything loose. His knock featured 14 elegant boundaries and two towering sixes, one of which came during a particularly aggressive spell where he dismantled England's bowling attack.

He reached the landmark in emphatic fashion, punching Archie Vaughan-a name carrying weight in English cricketing circles due to his famous father, Michael Vaughan-for a boundary off the very first ball of the 36th over.

The right-hander forged a modest 17-run stand with fellow opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi (14 off 13) before building a substantial 173-run partnership for the second wicket with Vihaan Malhotra, who made a composed 67 from 99 deliveries. Mhatre's innings eventually came to an end on 102 when Archie Vaughan got his revenge in the 38th over, but not before the Indian skipper had laid a strong platform for his side.

The young batter's century comes after a lean patch in the youth ODI series against the same opposition, where he scored just 27 runs in four games. However, Mhatre has been making headlines in domestic and franchise cricket for a while. Earlier this year, he made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the Irani Cup final, and then went on to impress in the IPL 2025.

Signed as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mhatre featured for the Chennai Super Kings and grabbed attention with a blistering 94 off 48 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru-a knock that included nine fours and five sixes. Despite CSK narrowly losing that match, Mhatre's fearless strokeplay won hearts.

Now, with a Youth Test hundred under his belt, Ayush Mhatre continues to rise as one of India's most promising young batting talents. A viral clip of his crisp boundary off Archie Vaughan only adds to the growing buzz surrounding his name.
