Team India and Australia will battle to get to the top of rankings heading into the ICC World Cup 2023 when they clash in a three-match ODI series, scheduled to start on Friday (September 22) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
The series will continue with the second ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday (September 24), and conclude with the third and final ODI at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27).

Both teams will use the series as an opportunity to test their squad depth and address a few issues ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to start on October 5 with India and Australia facing off on October 8 in their campaign openers.
India has rested regular skipper Rohit Sharma and four other key players part of the World Cup squad for the first two ODIs with KL Rahul set to lead the side in the captain's absence. Rohit, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya will return for the final ODI.
Axar Patel, who missed the Asia Cup 2023 final due to injury, will miss the first two ODIs, but has been included in the squad for the final ODI subject to his fitness. Men in Blue have also included premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad for the three ODIs.
Ashwin, who makes his return to the Indian ODI squad for the first time since 18 months, is not part of the World Cup squad, but has been included in the lead up to the show-piece tournament.
Washington Sundar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna are the other players who have been included in the squad despite not making the cut for the 15-member World Cup squad.
Australia, on the other hand, will be without the services of Travis Head and Ashton Agar, who are both part of the World Cup squad. But the record champions will welcome back skipper Pat Cummins and three other key players to the squad in a boost for their World Cup preparations.
Apart from Cummins, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc return to the squad after missing the recent white-ball tour to South Africa. Australia have also included Tanveer Sangha, Matthew Short, Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson, who are not in the World Cup squad, for the ODI Series.
Second-ranked India head into the series fresh from the Asia Cup 2023 triumph following a thumping win over Sri Lanka in the final, while Australia come into the series on the back of a 2-3 series loss in South Africa despite leading the series 2-0.
This will be the second ODI series between India and Australia this year. In March, Australia came from 0-1 down to clinch the three-match series 2-1 after Mitchell Marsh, Starc and Adam Zampa starred for the visitors.
India and Australia have crossed paths in 146 ODIs so far with the latter holding a huge advantage of 82 wins to the latter's 54 victories with 10 matches ending in No Result. Australia has also beaten India in their own backyard 32 times with the hosts winning 30 times at home.
