It was a Shubman Gill show at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday (March 11) as India have given themselves a strong foundation at the end of the 3rd day's play in the 4th Test. India finished the day on 289/3 at the end of the 3rd day.
India started the day with an overnight score of 36/0 in reply to Australia's 480 in the first innings. Usman Khawaja scored 180 for the visitors while India's Ravichandran Ashwin picked up six wickets.
Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma started the proceedings on Day 3 and the pair added 74 runs for the opening wicket. India captain Rohit Sharma departed for 35 as Matt Kuhnemann got his wicket, but Gill continued his superb batting form.
The stylish batter notched up his 2nd Test hundred as he made history by becoming the 4th Indian batter to score centuries in all formats in a single year. His sublime knock of 128 consisted of 12 fours and a gigantic six, which is also Gill's highest Test score at the moment.
Gill's decent batting was first accompanied by Cheteshwar Pujara, who fell 8 runs short of his 36th Test fifty. And then it was Virat Kohli's turn to score runs on the fantastic batting pitch at the Narendra Modi stadium.
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill added 58 runs for the 3rd wicket, and after Gill's dismissal, Kohli continued to negotiate the Aussie bowlers in a steady way. The former Indian captain got his first Test fifty after a long gap and was steady and pragmatic in his approach.
The Indian batter brought about his 29th Test fifty and is unbeaten on 59 runs at the end of the day's play. Ravindra Jadeja is also at the crease as he bats on 16 runs.

India have finished the day at 289/3 and are behind by 191 runs with two more days of the Test match to spare.
Australian bowlers put in a decent effort but failed to exert the same magnitude of venom that they had in the last match in Indore. The trio of their spinners were fairly economical, but could manage only one wicket each as the pitch didn't provide any significant assistance so far. Only three wickets fell in the day and spinners took all of those wickets.
