India vs Australia 4th Test officially broke the record for crowd attendance at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne on day 5 of the Boxing Day clash of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025/25.
According to Fox Cricket, the attendance figures over the five days of this match stood at 350,700, going past the previous best of 350,534 set back in 1936/37 during a six-day Test between England and Australia.

As per Cricket Australia, the record crowd in IND vs AUS MCG Test is now also the greatest attendance for any Test match played in Australia. "We've officially surpassed the attendance record set in 1936/37 when Australia faced England - a Test which spanned six days," MCG posted on their official X account at the end of the first session on Monday (December 30).
The ongoing Boxing Day Test has been witness to some memorable moments for Indian players with Nitish Kumar Reddy scoring his maiden international century, and Jasprit Bumrah continuing to dominate at the MCG with another five-wicket haul.
Team India, however, were in a spot of bother going into lunch on day 5 as they lost Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in the first session of play as the hosts stood at 33/3 in their run chase of 340.
Coming back to the attendance record, a total of 299,329 fans attended the boxing day Test match by the end of Day 4, beating the previous record of 271,865 spectators, which was set on 2013.
ICC chairman Jay Shah had taken to social media on Sunday (December 29) to laud the feat, with a post on social media calling the interest in Test cricket as 'terrific'.
In fact, the India vs Australia series has drawn huge spectators with Cricket Australia's outgoing CEO Nick Hockley saying that it validated the decision to add a Test to the BGT. Hockley said the collective roar of Indian fans after Nitish Kumar Reddy's maiden hundred is something that he has never heard at the MCG.
