After Australia collapsed from 85 for three to 113 all-out to lose the second Test match in Delhi inside three days, former captain Allan Border slammed the visitors for not applying themselves on the spin-friendly track on offer at the venue.
On Sunday, Australia lost their last eight wickets for 28 runs, thereby losing the match inside three days. Ravindra Jadeja bowled 55 days on Day 3 and picked seven wickets for 19 runs. The left-arm spinner, who was adjudged Man of the Match in the first Test in Nagpur, cleaned the stumps of as many as five Australia batters who mostly tried to sweep or reverse sweep him.
“I’m angry about the way they went about it today,” Allan Border told Fox Sports after Australia collapsed from 61/1 to 113 all-out.
The former Australia captain reckoned that the batters panicked and lacked method to prevail on a spinning Delhi surface. He criticised his players for not playing "good defensive cricket".
“It was panicky, frenetic sort of batting and nobody got in there to stem the flow with some good defensive cricket. They were all just getting out playing sweep shot, reverse sweep to just about every ball," fumed Border.
“You can’t get away with that on that sort of track. You’ve got to have a method," the 67-year-old concluded.

India, the number two ranked Test team in the world, retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the third time since their home victory in 2017/18. Since then India have defeated Australia twice in Australia and have now defended the series at home in 2023.
The emphatic win has now ensured that India will not lose the series from here. Further, Rohit Sharma's men have one foot into the World Test Championship (WTC) final which will be played in June at the Kennington Oval. India need to win the 4-match series, 3-1 or 4-0 to book their berth in the second final of the WTC. Australia's position to qualify for the WTC will be under threat if they lose 4-0 in the series.
