It was a frustrating day for India on Friday (March 10) as Australia dawdled along with Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green.
But amid a frustrating day, there was a moment of comical relief for the Indian fielders in the heat of Ahmedabad as Ravindra Jadeja turned to 'Leg Umpire' during the day.
In a hilarious moment during the match, Ravi Ashwin bowled a ball in the leg side and Cameron Green had missed it. KS Bharat captured and took off the bails and then made a half-hearted appeal of stumping towards the leg umpire.
But there was no leg umpire as Richard Kettleborough had stationed himself to the off side. Hence Jadeja, who was fielding at square leg, pretended to be the leg umpire himself and called for the third umpire with a signal, and then gave the batter out by himself instantly.
India had mostly a disappointing day as Usman Khawaja (180) and Cameron Green (114) pulled the strings. Ashwin got the hosts back in the game with three quick wickets in the second half. The visitors are currently 429/8 and will be aiming to amass as many runs as possible.
Ravindra Jadeja, who is the highest wicket-taker of this Border Gavaskar Trophy with 22 wickets, managed only one success so far in the match. Australia captain Steve Smith was his only scalp on the first day as the premier spinner was negotiated decently by the Australia batters.
India are still ahead in the Test series 2-1 and need a positive result to book their place for the WTC final in June. The hosts won the first two matches in Nagpur and Delhi, but suffered to a crushing defeat in Indore.
