India vs Australia: Rishabh Pant added a touch of levity to a tense Test series with a playful prank on Australia legend Adam Gilchrist during Day 3 of the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval.
The Indian wicketkeeper-batter sneaked up behind the former cricketer, who was busy with his duties as a commentator, and blindfolded him with his hands. Startled at first, Gilchrist broke into laughter upon realising the culprit was Pant.

“I was surprised there, didn’t know who was behind me,” Gilchrist was seen saying. “It’s moments like these that bring a light-hearted charm to cricket amidst all the intensity.”
The video quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising the camaraderie between the two players. Pant has often expressed admiration for Gilchrist, describing the three-time World Cup winner as one of his biggest inspirations in cricket.
Pant has previously shared his respect for Gilchrist’s legacy, particularly highlighting the Australian’s dual brilliance with bat and gloves. “I used to watch Adam Gilchrist a lot as a kid,” Pant said on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, which is co-hosted by Gilchrist. “Even though I don’t watch much cricket, his batting and wicketkeeping always inspired me. Meeting him for the first time was surreal.”
Gilchrist’s illustrious career includes 96 Test matches with 5,570 runs at an average of 47.60, alongside 416 dismissals as a wicketkeeper. In ODIs, he amassed 9,619 runs and 472 dismissals.
Despite the pre-match fun, Day 3 turned grim for India. Rishabh Pant fell cheaply to Mitchell Starc in the first over, edging to slip for 28. India’s innings crumbled to 175, handing Australia an easy 10-wicket win to level the series 1-1. Captain Pat Cummins was the standout bowler, claiming 5/57 with short-ball tactics that dismantled India’s lower order.
With the series finely poised, all eyes will now shift to Brisbane for the third Test starting December 14.
