India's World Cup 2023 heartbreak against Australia has very little time for mourning as they take on the same opponents again in a five-match T20I series, starting from Thursday (November 23).
As per reports, Suryakumar Yadav is set to lead the team in the upcoming T20I series. The Indian batter was part of the World Cup squad but now has the opportunity to captain the side in the matches against the Aussies.

The majority of the squad from the Ireland T20Is has been called up, but Jasprit Bumrah, who was captain for that tour, has been rested.
Indian selectors were poised to appoint Shreyas Iyer as captain but he has been given a rest due to the recent workload. Likely, Iyer won't be part of the series. Among the World Cup squad players, Prasidh Krishna is likely to be retained for the Australia series.
Rinku Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan are also extremely likely to make it for the series.
VVS Laxman is set to return as India's coach for the Australia series. The former India player was at the helm in the Ireland series and is making his return for this upcoming assignment. India coach Rahul Dravid's hectic last three months means he is getting a rest for the Australia T20I matches.
Incidentally, Dravid's tenure as India's coach is under smoke as his contract expired with the conclusion of the World Cup. He is yet to make a comment on his future and we may get a confirmation after the Australia matches.
Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.
Top-order batter Shreyas Iyer - who scored two consecutive centuries in the just-concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 but failed to leave a mark in the final against Australia - will join the team and deputise Suryakumar Yadav for the last two T20Is.
