Team India will look to resume their World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle on a positive note when they face a confident Bangladesh side in the first of the two-Tests series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, starting on Thursday (September 19).
Rohit Sharma-led India will play their first red-ball game since the dominating 4-1 series win over England at home earlier this year in March. Bangladesh led by Najmul Hossain Shanto will be upbeat following their recent 2-0 away series success in Pakistan.

The series will also be crucial in the WTC 2025 final race. India currently lead the standings with a win percentage of 68.52 and are well-poised to reach their third successive title clash, while Bangladesh are in fourth with a win percentage of 48.53.
India are unbeaten in their 12 previous Test meetings with Bangladesh, having won 10 and drawn 2. This will, however, be only the third time Bangladesh tour India for a red ball series.
India has won all three of their previous home Tests against Bangladesh. India hosted Bangladesh in Hyderabad, Kolkata and Indore on their previous visits for a Test match. The two sides will now clash for the first time at MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk.
The home side has won 15 Tests in Chennai. And also possess a record of 7 defeats and 2 draws along with a tie at the venue, where they last faced England in two back-to-back Tests in 2021, winning one and losing one.
Now, before India host Bangladesh at the venue for the very first time, here is a look at the MA Chidambaram Stadium Stats, Record and Pitch Report ahead of India vs Bangladesh 1st Test:
The pitches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium have known to be spin friendly wickets made of black soil. However, as per a report by the Indian Express, a red soil wicket may be used for the 1st Test as Bangladesh is used to playing on slower black soil pitches at home.
The last time a Test match was hosted at the venue, India ran out winners by 317 runs against England with local boy Ravichandran Ashwin starring with both bat and ball, claiming a five-wicket haul before a fine century.
