India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 4: Virat Kohli Survives Comedy of Errors as Rishabh Pant Hugs It Out

By Rishab V M

Day 4 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh delivered a tense yet humorous moment when Virat Kohli survived a bizarre run-out attempt, much to the shock and relief of both teams.

The drama unfolded in the 18th over when Kohli and Rishabh Pant were at the crease, and a simple mix-up nearly cost Kohli his wicket. In an unexpected twist, Bangladesh bowler Khaled Ahmed missed a straightforward run-out chance, resulting in a light-hearted exchange between the Indian pair.

It all happened when Kohli, batting after the dismissal of Shubman Gill, found himself in a tricky spot. Facing Khaled Ahmed, Kohli was looking to drive a good-length ball outside off but ended up chopping it with an under-edge close to the pitch.

The miscommunication between Kohli and Pant began as both batters hesitated, leading to a huge mix-up. Kohli was stranded midway down the pitch, having resigned himself to being run out.

Khaled Ahmed quickly picked up the ball and sprinted towards the stumps. All he had to do was remove the bails to dismiss Kohli, who had accepted his fate. But instead of completing the simplest of run-outs, Khaled opted for an underarm throw from just a yard away.

In a moment that shocked the entire stadium, he missed the stumps entirely. The Bangladesh camp looked on in disbelief as Kohli escaped by the skin of his teeth. After the moment of chaos subsided, all eyes were on Kohli, who had narrowly escaped what would have been a costly mistake.

The former Indian captain shot a quick glare at Pant, who had frozen in the middle of the wicket. But instead of letting the moment escalate, Pant immediately walked up to Kohli, wrapping his arms around him in a big hug. Kohli, after initially appearing frustrated, broke into a smile, and the two shared a moment of relief on the field.

Pant's gesture helped lighten the mood, turning what could have been a disastrous situation into a memorable one. Social media quickly picked up on the moment, with fans praising Pant's playful reaction and Khaled Ahmed's unfortunate blunder.

A Close Call for Kohli

Kohli's near run-out wasn't just another mix-up but a rare moment of levity in an otherwise competitive Test. With Kohli demoted to No. 5 in the batting order, fans were eager to see him perform. However, this close call left everyone in the stadium and watching from home holding their breath.

Thankfully for India, Kohli survived and added some crucial runs as well. Virat was in a brilliant mood, as he scored a quick knock of 47 runs that came off just 35 deliveries, including 4 boundaries and a six at a strike-rate of 134.29.
