India vs Bangladesh: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and veteran batter Virat Kohli have arrived in Chennai to kick off preparations for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to begin on September 19. The second Test will take place in Kanpur, starting on September 27.

Rohit Sharma was spotted at the Chennai airport on Thursday night, sporting a casual yellow jersey, while being escorted by security personnel. Meanwhile, Kohli, who flew directly from London, arrived early in the morning.

In addition to the duo, key players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant also made their way to the city earlier on Thursday. The entire team is gathering in Chennai after a break of over a month, following their disappointing One-Day International (ODI) series loss against Sri Lanka in August.

This Test series holds particular significance as it marks India's first outing under the leadership of new head coach Gautam Gambhir. With the support of his fresh coaching staff, Gambhir is tasked with helping the Indian team bounce back from their recent ODI struggles and regain momentum in the longer format of the game.

The series also carries crucial implications for the World Test Championship (WTC). India currently leads the WTC standings with 68.52 percentage points, followed by Australia at 62.50 per cent. Bangladesh sits in fourth place with 45.83 percentage points, making this a high-stakes encounter for both teams. Every win in the series will be pivotal for India's chances to stay ahead in the WTC race.

Looking ahead, the Indian team faces a packed schedule for the 2024-2025 season, including a home Test series against New Zealand and the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar series in Australia.
