India vs Bangladesh: Indian batters had mixed fortunes in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh on Thursday, February 20, as Rohit Sharma reached a historic milestone while Virat Kohli fell agonisingly short of his own.
Captain Rohit Sharma etched his name among the ODI greats and became only the 10th player to surpass 11,000 runs in the fifty-over format, continuing his dominance in white-ball cricket.

While Rohit celebrated his achievement, Virat Kohli narrowly missed out on his own historic landmark. The former India skipper needed just 37 runs to become only the third player to reach 14,000 ODI runs, but he fell short after being dismissed for 22. His failure to reach the milestone keeps him behind Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara in the all-time run charts.
Rohit Sharma became the 10th batter in history to reach 11,000 runs in One-Day Internationals during India's ICC Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh in Dubai. The Indian captain achieved the feat in his 262nd innings, further cementing his legacy among the modern-day greats.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli had the opportunity to reach 14,000 ODI runs in the same match but fell agonizingly short. The former Indian skipper needed just 37 runs to achieve the milestone but was dismissed for 22, leaving him still on the cusp of history. Kohli remains third on the all-time ODI run-scorers list, behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234).
Coming into the match, Kohli was expected to reach the landmark comfortably given his consistency in ODIs. However, Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain denied him the milestone by dismissing him for 22 off 38 balls. Kohli attempted a cut shot but was caught at point by Soumya Sarkar.
This was yet another instance of Kohli struggling against leg-spin. In India's recent T20I series against England, he was dismissed by Adil Rashid in a similar fashion. His struggles against leg-spinners on gripping surfaces have been a recurring theme in recent years, and Bangladesh exploited that weakness effectively.
Rohit, on the other hand, played a fluent knock of 41 off 36 balls before falling to Taskin Ahmed. The India skipper looked in fine touch, striking seven boundaries before mistiming a lofted shot to Rishad Hossain. Despite his dismissal, he had already reached the 11,000-run mark, becoming only the fourth Indian to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Sourav Ganguly.
India was in a comfortable position at 138/3 after 29 overs, chasing Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 228. However, they suffered a slight scare when Shreyas Iyer nearly got run out without scoring. With the pitch offering some assistance to spinners, India has had to navigate carefully in a bid to secure an early win.
Bangladesh, batting first, posted 228 in 49.4 overs. Towhid Hridoy was the standout performer with a century (100 off 118 balls), while Jaker Ali contributed a patient 68. However, the rest of the lineup struggled against India's bowling attack. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers, claiming a five-wicket haul (5/53), while Harshit Rana impressed with 3/31.
