India vs Bangladesh T20: BCB announces squad, experienced opener dropped after T20 World Cup debacle

By MyKhel Staff

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, with several notable changes.

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan returns to the T20I format after a 14-month hiatus, joined by left-handed opener Parvez Hossain Emon and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan, both of whom have earned their spots for this crucial series.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Rakibul Hasan.

The squad reflects a shift in strategy following the ICC T20 World Cup, where veterans like Soumya Sarkar and Tanvir Ahmed, who played in the tournament, failed to secure their places. Shakib Al Hasan's retirement from T20Is has left a significant gap in the middle order, prompting the selectors to look at alternatives like Mehidy Hasan for his versatile skills in both batting and off-spin bowling. Mehidy's all-around abilities make him a strong candidate to fill the void left by Shakib's departure.

BCB's selection panel highlighted Parvez Hossain Emon's development and potential, citing his impressive performances in training sessions as a key reason for his inclusion. This is seen as a forward-looking move, with the selectors keen on giving younger talents more opportunities on the international stage.

Rakibul Hasan's selection comes as a replacement for Tanvir Ahmed, who is currently sidelined due to a hand injury. While Rakibul may not be a guaranteed starter, the team management views him as a strategic option who could be valuable in different team combinations.

Mahmudullah, a seasoned campaigner in the Bangladesh setup, has retained his spot, as the team management continues to see his experience and ability as crucial in the shorter format. Additionally, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan has been included, with the team expecting him to offer flexibility, particularly with the new ball, given his capabilities as an opening bowler.

With a balanced mix of youth and experience, the squad will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto and includes key players like Litton Das, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed, who will anchor the pace attack.
