Hyderabad, Feb 8: Indian captain Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking another record as he prepares to lead the team against Bangladesh in a one-off Test starting here tomorrow (February 9).
Probable Indian XI for Test
On Thursday, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Kohli will captain India against Bangladesh and a win will help him surpass former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin's mark.
Kohli and Azharuddin are currently tied at 14 Test successes each as captains of India. The Delhi right-hander can move to 3rd place behind Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly if he leads the side to victory against Bangladesh.
On current form, India should have it easy against the Tigers helping Kohli to claim the record.
Kohli has so far won 5 successive Test series, starting in Sri Lanka (2-1) in 2015, followed by South Africa (3-0) at home, then West Indies (2-0) (away), New Zealand (3-0) at home. Captain Kohli is yet to lose a series.
Bangladesh are playing a Test in India for the first time. They have never beaten India in the longer format since they debuted in the year 2000.
India are currently the number one ranked Test team in the world while Bangladesh are 9th. Despite the gulf between the sides, hosts' head coach Anil Kumble said they were not taking the opposition lightly and they would "respect" them.
