India vs England 1st Test: Shreyas Iyer Suffers Wrist Injury During Practice Session

By MyKhel Staff

Indian cricket team suffered an injury concern on Tuesday (January 23) as middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was hit on his wrist during a practice session ahead of India vs England 1st Test in Hyderabad from January 25.

Revsportz reported that Shreyas Iyer was struck on the right wrist during a throwdown. He had to leave the nets to apply ice to his injury after he attempted to bat once more but was unable to do so due to agony. The good news is that, despite the injury to his wrist, he was spotted batting in nets once more.

This suggests that he might have fully healed in time to participate in the first Test of the five-match series, which gets underway on January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Given that Kohli is out and the Mumbai batsman is anticipated to bat at No. 4, with KL Rahul replacing him at No. 5, Iyer will be vital for India, confirmed coach Rahul Dravid.

Shreyas Iyer, who was pivotal in India reaching the ICC World Cup Final last year, failed to make an impact during the red-ball series against South Africa and will look to prove his worth during the home series against England.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer made headlines two weeks ago when a Bengali tabloid said that Ishan Kishan had been dropped after being seen partying with MS Dhoni in Dubai during a mental tiredness break. According to the same allegation, Shreyas Iyer was sacked as a punishment for declining to play in Ranji Trophy 2023-24 matches.

Rahul Dravid dismissed the two reports. Ishan Kishan, who removed his name from the South Africa Tests, has not yet shown up for work, according to him. Shreyas Iyer was left out because there were too many batters to fit in, the former captain of India said.
