India vs England 2nd ODI Playing 11 and Toss Report: ENG Opt To Bat; Virat Kohli returns, Varun Chakravarthy debuts

By MyKhel Staff

India vs England 2nd ODI Playing 11 and Toss: England captain Jos Buttler opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday -- February 9. Among the major updates from the match, however, is return of Virat Kohli while Varun Chakravarthy makes debut.

Speaking after winning the toss, Buttler said: "We are going to bat first today. We have been pushing in the right direction, play better for longer and hopefully have a good day today. Looks a bit dry, black soil. Looks a good wicket. Three changes, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton come into the XI."

Meanwhile India skipper Rohit Sharma said: "It was a good performance in the first game. That's what I loved about. The energy was very good despite not being on the field for a while. It was superb to watch after losing two wickets. Shreyas prides himself on that intent and attitude and not to forget the contributions of Shubman and Axar as well. Black soil pitch, not sure. Maybe play on the slower side, that's what I expect. Two changes, Jaiswal makes way for Virat. Kuldeep is rested so Varun makes his debut."

India vs England 2nd ODI Pitch Report

The Cuttack pitch is a high-scoring surface with short square boundaries (63m & 64m) and a longer straight boundary (73m). The surface isn't as hard as previous venues and has some cracks, which could assist spinners later in the game. The ball should come on nicely under the sun, but the abrasive nature of the pitch might slow it down in the latter part of the first innings. Bowling first could be a good option, as dew might play a role in the second half. Spinners will have a challenge with short mid-wicket pockets aiding big hits.
