India vs England: Akash Deep dedicates performance to Sister battling Cancer, sends emotional message to Her

By MyKhel Staff

India pacer Akash Deep dedicated his outstanding performance against England to his sister, as the player revealed she was diagnosed with cancer recently.

The India pacer was lethal at Edgbaston as he picked up 10 wickets across two innings, paving India's path towards a record win by 336 runs against England.

Akash Deep

Akash Deep picked up 4 wickets in the first innings, and then rallied back with 6 more in the second to register the best figures by an India bowler on English soil in a Test match. The Bengal pacer was included as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, and he inspired the team with his bowling.

But the player has not been in the right frame of mind mentally, as his sister was recently diagnosed with cancer. While speaking with Cheteshwar Pujara after the match, the India pacer revealed the news, dedicating the performance to his sister.

"I haven't told this to anyone, my sister has been suffering from cancer for the last two months. She is stable and okay now, but she will be the happiest for me after what she has gone through mentally for the last two months. I was playing this match dedicating her and wanted to give her happiness," an emotional Akash Deep said while speaking with Cheteshwar Pujara after the match.

He also had a message to his sister after the match, who must have been extremely happy for him.

"Sister, the performance was for you. Whenever I was holding the ball, your face was coming to my mind. I wanted to see you happy. We are all with you," Akash Deep sent a message to her live on air.

Akash Deep has been a warrior from the start. The pacer lost his father and elder brother in a span of few months, but continued his battle to establish himself as a cricketer. The 28-year-old looked a class apart at Edgbaston and is expected to play at Lord's as well.
