India vs England: Sai Sudharsan among 3 players who can play across all formats, says Robin Uthappa

By MyKhel Staff

India are set to lock horns against England in a five-match Test series, which will see a number of youngsters in action.

After the retirement of Rohit Sharma from Tests, India will be led by Shubman Gill as the new World Test Championship cycle approaches.

Sai Sudharsan

Rohit and Virat Kohli's retirements have left a huge void in the Indian batting nucleus, but it also poses an opportunity for youngsters such as Sai Sudharsan and others, who will have the incentive to cement their places in the Indian setup across formats.

Former India player Robin Uthappa thinks Sai Sudharsan can be among the batting pillars of India who can take the game forward across all formats in future. When asked about the Tamil Nadu player, Uthappa included him among three batters who can be the mainstay in both Test and limited-overs cricket.

"Sai Sudharsan's rise has been incredible. Just last season, he was retired out for not scoring quickly. This year, without changing his technique, he's added smart shot selection and taken his strike rate from 130 to 170. Now he's the Orange Cap holder. That's mighty impressive. I genuinely believe he's one of India's future three-format players, right up there with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal," said Uthappa on JioHotstar.

Sudharsan showcased his brilliance in the IPL 2025, clinching the Orange Cap after scoring 759 runs for Gujarat Titans. The southpaw has so far played 3 ODIs and 1 T20I for India, and has already scored 2 fifties, both coming in the 50-over matches. The 23-year-old is part of the England Test series and will be hoping to make a mark if he gets an opportunity.

India have already reached England and conducted their first training session on Sunday (June 8).
