India vs England: Sourav Ganguly heaps praises on Sarfaraz and Yashasvi, criticizes Bazball

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has heaped praises on young India duo Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan amid their excellent performances.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant double hundred in the 3rd Test in Rajkot, whereas Sarfaraz Khan scored two half-centuries in his elusive debut for the Indian team. Rohit Sharma and his men thrashed England and took the lead in the five-match Test series.

Sarfaraz and Yashasvi

As India prepare to wrap the series in Ranchi, the former India captain and BCCI president had only good words to say about the dynamic duo, who demonstrated their elite skill on the biggest stage.

Yashasvi Jaiswal racked up his second double hundred of the series and continued his merry way, whereas Sarfaraz also looked unfazed in his India debut, as the batter scored 62 and an unbeaten 68 across two innings.

"Jaiswal is not only a good player, he's capable of playing all in formats of the game. Sarfaraz has started well. He now has to score in foreign countries. Sarfaraz is a good example for budding cricketers, who must keep in mind that if they score consistently, they will get their chances," Ganguly said in a chat with Mid Day.

The former India skipper also harshly criticized the Bazball, the English approach to playing Test cricket. The Bazball worked in the first Test but has crashed in the following two matches, and Ganguly believes implementing the same in Indian conditions is a tough ask.

"Bazball is good, but it's difficult for England to be successful in Indian conditions. I will be surprised if India lose the series. Please remember that India are playing without Virat Kohli, KL [Rahul]. It's a young team with many new faces, and yet, England are struggling," he further said.

The English media and pundits have harshly criticized Ben Stokes and his team for their self-inflicting style of play, which bundled them out for just 122 runs in the second innings of the Rajkot Test.

Although England coach Brendon McCullum has vowed to continue playing in the same manner, it is to be seen how they grind out the optimum result in the upcoming two matches.
