India vs England: Suryakumar Yadav Backs Sanju Samson, Says 'There’s No Question Mark on Wicketkeeper'

India vs England: India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has unequivocally backed wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson ahead of the T20I series against England, dismissing any speculation surrounding Samson's place in the squad.

Speaking in Kolkata during a pre-match press conference, Suryakumar highlighted the Kerala-born cricketer's recent contributions and emphasised his importance to the team's setup.

"There is no question mark on the wicketkeeper. Sanju has done really well in the last seven-eight games. He has shown what he is capable of," Suryakumar stated, reinforcing the management's faith in Samson's abilities.

Samson's consistent performances, including a stellar 2024 season where he scored 436 runs in 13 T20Is at an average of 43.60 and a remarkable strike rate exceeding 180, have solidified his standing. With three centuries and a fifty last year, his explosive hitting has been a major asset. Notably, his unbeaten 111 against Bangladesh and two centuries in South Africa were highlights of his career resurgence.

Suryakumar added, "He has got the opportunity and he has really made use of it. I am really happy for him." This confidence in Samson's capabilities underlines his potential to be a key figure in India's T20 World Cup preparations.

The Kerala Cricket Association's (KCA) controversial decision to exclude him from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad raised questions about regional bias and transparency in selections. Adding intrigue, reports suggest that the Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu Cricket Associations have approached Samson to join their respective setups. Both associations see value in securing the services of a player of his calibre, given his proven track record and recent form.
