India defeated England in a high-scoring thriller in the second semifinal of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup to book their place in the final. In a day when nearly 499 runs were scored, featuring 34 sixes, the celebrating cricketing gala also saw a record digital viewership.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah confirmed the record-breaking digital viewership on his social media account a day after the match. Earlier, the ICC chairman had posted a cumulative statistic of the tournament, which had received over 500 million views in India.

In a social media post from his official handle, the ICC Chairman said that as many as 65.2 million viewers watched the second semifinal between India and England on JioHotstar for live access. Shah further said it was the highest cumulative viewership for any 'live event' around the world.

The ex-BCCI secretary further stated that his ICC team, as well as JioHotstar, has been actively recruiting and "engaging with fans" at a global scale to set new benchmarks for the game.

"The second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 has shattered the world record for digital viewership. The match between BCCI and England Cricket registered a peak digital concurrency of 65.2 million viewers on JioHotstar, which is the highest for any live event across the world. This demonstrates the unparalleled capacity of marquee global Cricket to aggregate Indian fans as well as the prowess of my team at the ICC and our partner #JioStar in recruiting & engaging fans at scale. T20 Fever Grips The Entire World!

Earlier in the week, Jay Shah revealed that the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 has already crossed 500 million total views, making it the most-watched edition in the tournament's history.

He also praised JioHotstar after the platform recorded a peak concurrent viewership of 60.5 million users just before the knockout stage began. Shah further thanked Indian cricket fans for their unwavering support, noting that their immense passion and enthusiasm continue to drive record-breaking engagement for ICC events.
