India became the second team after Afghanistan to qualify for the Super 4s in the Asia Cup 2022 with a 40-run victory over minnows Hong Kong at Dubai International Stadium.
Chasing a massive 193-run target was never going to be easy for the amateur Hong Kong batters but they put up a good show in the powerplay and left everyone impressed as they reached 152 for 5 in stipulated 20 overs.
Babar Hayat was the top scorer for Hong Kong as he scored 41 off 35 balls. The right-handed Pakistan-born batter smashed three fours and a couple of maximums but that wasn't enough.
The Rohit Sharma-led side might have won the match but the fact that Hong Kong easily crossed the 150-run mark in the run chase would certainly force the team management to ponder over its bowling attack.
Indians would have looked to bowl out the opposition but could only manage 5 wickets. Their bowling needs to get more incisive as the young pace duo of Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh leaked runs heavily.
Earlier in the day, Suryakumar Yadav stole the show with his scintillating unbeaten knock of 68 off just 26 balls and helped India post 192 for two after being put in to bat first.
The explosive Mumbai cricketer overshadowed the fluent half-century from Virat Kohli and decimated opposition bowling in the death overs with his 360-degree hitting and helped his team finish on a high.
