India will begin their five-match T20I series against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Led by Shreyas Iyer, the visitors will look to make a winning start to their tour, while Mitchell Santner's New Zealand will aim to capitalise on home conditions.

The series offers India an opportunity to assess their batting combinations and bowling options as preparations continue for future international tournaments. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan provide attacking options, while the return of experienced seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar adds another dimension to the bowling attack.

New Zealand will rely on their familiarity with local conditions and an experienced core featuring Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell and Finn Allen. Their bowling attack, which includes Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Jacob Duffy, could pose a significant challenge to India's aggressive batting lineup.

With both sides looking to establish early momentum, the opening encounter promises an intriguing contest between India's batting firepower and New Zealand's home advantage.
