Virat Kohli took centre stage in the ICC World Cup 2023 once again as the 34-year-old batter scored a world record 50th ODI century to take India to the final. Mohammed Shami dazzled in the win too with seven wickets as New Zealand fell short by 70 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Virat Kohli scored 117 runs (113 balls) while Shreyas Iyer delivered 105 off just 70 to take India to a massive 397/4 in 50 overs after skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss. In response, Mohammed Shami's 7/57 bundled out New Zealand at 327 (48.5 overs) despite a fighting century by Daryl Mitchell.

The highlight of the New Zealand innings was an 181-run partnership between Kane Williamson (69) and Daryl Mitchell (134). Earlier Rohit gave India a brilliant start with a knock of 29-ball 47 before losing his wicket to a rash shot.
Gill took over from there and built the innings with Virat Kohli before he left the field with an injury. He did come back later in the slog overs and took his score to a 66-ball 80. Meanwhile, Kohli and Iyer carried on the good work to set New Zealand an improbable target.
Virat Kohli also became the first batter in the history of the game to score 50 ODI centuries, going past his idol Sachin Tendulkar He broke an array of records with the century, including being the first batter to score 700-plus runs (711) in the history of the tournament.
Mohammad Shami (23) meanwhile sits atop the bowling chart of the ICC World Cup 2023, surpassing Adam Zampa (22 wickets). It was a precious show by the bowler, who deflated every fightback by the Kiwi top order during a run chase that required regular boundaries.
