India vs Pakistan: Despite strong calls from various former cricketers and stakeholders to sever cricketing ties in light of the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year, India and Pakistan are expected to meet on the field once again-this time in the 2025 Asia Cup.
According to a Cricbuzz report, there's renewed optimism within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the tournament will proceed as scheduled, with the opening game tentatively set for September 10.

The six-nation competition, to be held in the T20 format, will feature India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the UAE. Though India is officially listed as the host, the tournament is likely to be played in the UAE, in line with prior BCCI and PCB agreements to hold events in neutral venues or through hybrid hosting models.
The 2023 edition was split between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and this time, the UAE seems the most probable destination.
The atmosphere surrounding the tournament has shifted significantly in recent months. Earlier, tensions along the Indo-Pak border, intensified by Operation Sindoor, had cast doubt over the feasibility of the event. However, recent developments suggest that the ACC, which is expected to meet in early July, is likely to confirm the full schedule soon.
While the high-stakes India-Pakistan clash remains a marquee global event, drawing record viewership and generating massive commercial value, it continues to stir political debate. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir, a vocal critic of sporting ties with Pakistan, recently reiterated his stance. "This is not about applause or headlines," Gambhir told CNN-News18. "Until cross-border terrorism ends, I personally believe there should be no interaction-be it cricket, cinema, or cultural exchange."
Despite such strong opinions, the commercial and diplomatic dynamics surrounding cricket appear to be steering the Asia Cup forward. Moreover, the India-Pakistan rivalry will continue on the women's cricket front, with the two sides scheduled to meet in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup on October 5 in Colombo.
While the situation remains delicate, cricketing authorities seem committed to keeping the game going-at least in multinational tournaments.
