India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2023: Colombo R. Premadasa Stadium Pitch Report and Weather Forecast

India's quest for an Asia Cup trophy will have a crucial juncture to it as the Indian team take on Pakistan in a massive Asia Cup 2023 Super Four clash on Sunday (September 10).

Both teams play each other for the second time within 8 days and will be hoping for their best performance after the group stage match washed out. Pakistan have already started their Super Four with a convincing win over Bangladesh, whereas this is the very first match for India in this stage.

India will be banking on their batting strength while Pakistan would fancy their pacers doing damage on Indian batting stalwarts again, just as they inflicted in the last match. Rohit Sharma will be keen to make changes from the Nepal match as the likes of Jasprit Bumrah may come into the starting lineup. Pakistan, on the other hand, brought in Faheem Ashraf in the last match but may bring back Mohammad Nawaz for the India tie.

Colombo R. Premadasa Stadium Pitch Report

India's clash against Pakistan will be the second of six consecutive matches at the R. Premdasa Stadium. The pitch at this venue has generally been a decent batting wicket over the years but it slows down at the latter stages.

Out of 155 matches, team batting first have won 84. With the overcast conditions of Colombo, batting first may not be the right choice, but runs on the board can be a big boost for any team.

We can expect a fresher pitch given not much international cricket has been played at this venue. But it will provide assistance for the spinners and will get slower as the game progresses.

What happens if Rain Washes Out India vs Pakistan match on Sunday?

If rain washes out any proceedings on Sunday, ACC has found a tweaking solution of a reserve day only for the India vs Pakistan match on Monday. Despite being a bizarre and baffling rule which is just applicable for this match, we will see action on Monday if there is no game on Sunday, or it gets interrupted after the start.

But the weather forecast on Monday (September 11) is not encouraging either as it predicts around 90 per cent rain chances throughout the day with a predicted volume of 26.7 mm.
