India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match is set to take place on Sunday (September 10) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where there was a flood-like situation last week due to persistent rains.
The first meeting between the arch-rivals in this tournament has already fallen victim to a wash out after the group stage clash at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy saw only India complete their innings at 266.

With a sketchy weather being forecast again and to not disappoint the fans, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has already announced a reserve day for Sunday's clash on Monday (September 11). Should weather play spoilsport, the match will resume on the reserve day from what position it stopped at.
While there is a reserve day, which is also likely to be hit by rain, there is a chance the match could be completed today, if the weather holds good like on Saturday (September 9) when Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in the second match of the Super 4 stage.
There was forecast for rain during Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh match, but weather did not interrupt play, leading to a complete 50 over an innings match, in which the hosts bowled out Shakib Al Hasan's side in 48.1 overs to seal a 21-run win.
So, there is every chance the weather may still hold good on Sunday (September 10), Here we take a look at the hourly weather in Colombo and the current weather forecast at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo:
It is expected to be a cloudy day with forecast for thunderstorms later, starting from the start of play at 3 PM Local Time, but it is expected to fade soon with cloudy conditions from 4 PM to 6 PM Local Time before another speil of thunderstorm in the area.
From 8 PM to 10 PM, the thunderstorms are predicted to return again to parts of Colombo. But then again, the prediction for yesterday (September 9) was also similar. However, we got to witness a full match without any interruption. So, let's take a look at the hourly weather updates of Colombo:

The match has been pushed into the reserve day after two spells of heavy downpour. But the forecast doesn't look promising for the reserve day (September 11) either for a full 50-over match.
The decision has been made to call off play today with another spell of a downpour. So, the match will resume as a full 50-over match tomorrow with India walking out to bat to play their remaining 25.5 overs at 3 PM.
This seemed to be a passing shower, but there is prediction for anothe spell or two again. And just as we type that, it has started pouring down heavily now. 9 PM start very unlikely, leaving the option of using the reserve day more sensible.
Just when there was some positive news, the rain has returned, undoing all the hardwork from the groundstaff, who have brought the covers on. In all likleyhood, there won't be any further play today if it turns into a heavy downpour. If the day is washed out, the match will resume as a 50-over match on reserve day.
Umpires told Star Sports that they hope to resume the match at 9 PM IST, but they will decide on that post the next inspection at 8:30 PM. They also said if the game restarts with overs being reduced (for example a 34 over match), then the match will resume on the reserve day (September 11 at 3 PM) as a 34 over match should there be another rain interruption once the game resumes today. If there is no further play today, then the match will resume as a 50-over match on reserve day with India resuming their innings at 147/2 in 24.1 overs.
The good news is that the rain has stayed away, but there are a few damp pitches that have delayed the resumption of play. The groundstaff have brought in three huge fans to dry the area of concern. The next inspection is at 8:30 PM and post that we will possibly get the update on the playing conditions and the potential start time.
The broadcasters say the next inspection will happen after another 10 minutes around 8 PM IST. The groundstaff are seen hard at work at two areas - the areas closer to bowler's run up at both ends. Hopefully there is a positive update on the play resuming soon.
The umpires have finished the inspection and are now in discussion with Babar Azam and the Pakistan coach after their discussion with Rohit and Rahul Dravid. They can be seen explaining about certain worry areas in the outfield. The players don't seem keen to resume play with a World Cup just around the corner. Stay tuned for the next update.
The umpires are doing the inspection to decide on a time to resume play. A lot of wet patches have been dried using saw dust. The broadcasters will soon provide an update on what happens next.
The umpires are seen having discussions with both captains - Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam as groundsmen work hard to fix some patches around the playing area. The covers are completely removed now, but the patches are a worry to get game started soon. Whatever the decision, it will be made at 7:30 PM IST after the inspection.
Although there is a reserve day, the priority is to finish the game today. We have already started losing overs with the cut-off time for a 20-over per side game being 10:36 PM today. If the match resumes as a 20-over game, India will not bat again in this innings, and Pakistan will be asked to chase a DLS revised target.
Deep Dasgupta shows the amount of water puddles around the ground and says the play can be extended upto 12 AM (September 11). The groundsmen can be seen hard at work to resume action, but it is going to be a challenge with so many patches on the outfield. Still a long way to take a call on resumption as thing stand in Colombo. Only good news is that it has stopped raining. Fingers crossed that it doesn't rain again or else that would delay or even wash out play today, forcing the match to resume on the reserve day (September 11) at 3 PM.

It has stopped raining and the covers are being peeled off, but we reached a point when we start losing overs. Although, the covers are being removed, there is lot of cleaning to be done and that may take a while. And once that's set, the match can resume depending on the conditions and of course if it doesn't rain again.
If there is no further play or if the match is not completed today (September 10), the match will resume from wherever it stopped on the reserve day (September 11). If there is no further play, India will resume their innings at 147/2 in 24.1 overs on the reserve day.
Nothing much has changed as the covers are still in place as it continues to rain in Colombo. If there is no further play, the match will resume tomorrow (reserve day) from where it stopped.

The forecast doesn't look promising for the rest of the day and also on the reserve day. Forget the reserve day, the forecast for the next week in Colombo, where the Asia Cup 2023 final is also scheduled to take place, doesn't look all that well.

The groundsmen get to work as they get whole ground under covers as rain pours heavily in Colombo. Play is unlikely to resume anytime soon. If there is no play possible today, there is a reserve day in place on Monday (September 11), when the play will resume with Indian batting from the 2nd delivery of the 25th over. The score is currently - India - 147/2 in 24.1 overs.

Rain stops play. The weather is so unpredictable as bright sunshine has suddenly changed into dark conditions with heavy rains in Colombo.
Despite the early threat of rain and the groundsmen taking position with the covers, the showers have stayed away and it has rained boundaries in Colombo. There is forecast for thunderstorms at 6 PM, but going by how the day has turned out, it is unlikely to rain today.
Early alarms of a rain threat has passed as Shubman Gill takes the attack to the Pakistan pacers in Colombo. All that's raining, is boundaries from India inside the first 9 overs.
All of a sudden it has become cloudy in Colombo and the ground staff are ready with the covers on the sidelines as wind begins to pick up and the humidity increases.
The sun is still shining bright and there is no sign of the rain predicted around the start of play. The temperature remains at 29° C, but the humidity has slightly increased t0 77 percent over the last hour as Pakistan opt to bowl first against India and use the moisture under the surface.

The players are out training ahead of the toss and KL Rahul is seen with the keeping gloves as Ishan Kishan is also seen doing his warm up.
Sun is still shining bright and there is no sight of rain, but clouds are starting to build. However, there is no chance of rain anytime soon. The forecast also said there will be no chance of rain during the toss with thunderstorms perdicted at 3 PM (scheduled time for start of play).

Blue skies with a little clouds. As it stands, it looks promising for a full match, but the forecast says otherwise. Let's hope for the best. AccuWeather says the temperature is still 29° C with humidity at 77 percent.
Weather over Colombo looks decent with blue skies above. However the forecast is a concern with rains expected. I am hoping it will not be so as the world can't be deprived of an India vs Pakistan game for the 2nd time during such a short span.
