India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023: Why High-Voltage Match In Ahmedabad May Be Rescheduled?

By MyKhel Staff

India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 match scheduled to take place on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad may be rescheduled to a new date, according to reports.

The much-anticipated match has already seen fans turn to booking beds in hospitals near the venue after the hotel prices skyrocketed since the India vs Pakistan match date was officially announced last month. If the reports of rescheduling turn out to be true then it will be a logistical nightmare.

Plus reports from Ahmedabad add that, the airfares also are expected to go up, but if a new date for the India-Pakistan game is announced, mass cancellation and frenzied booking are on the cards. But, why is match possibly being rescheduled?

Why India vs Pakistan World Cup match may be rescheduled?

The scheduled date of October 15 clashes with the first day of Navaratri, an Indian festival celebrated over nine days. As per reports, security agencies have expressed their reservations about holding the match on the same date as Navratri.

Hence, BCCI has been advised to tweak the schedule to accomodate the match, which is expected to see over a lakh fans arrive in the city of Ahmedabad, and millions watch across the world on television.

"We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri," a top BCCI official, who did not wish to be identified, told The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, BCCI is also likely to meet with all associations that will host the World Cup matches in October-November as BCCI secretary Jay Shah sent out invitations on Tuesday (July 26) night, calling for a meeting in New Delhi on July 27.

It is understood that the board plans to discuss security concerns related to Ahmedabad and finalize a new date for the highly-anticipated India-Pakistan match.

"I feel it will be in the best interest of all concerned that we meet again to exchange notes and take stock of any issue which needs discussion and decision. Accordingly, you are hereby requested to attend a meeting of the World Cup hosting associations," the letter sent to all state associations states.
