India vs Pakistan, T20 World Cup 2024: India is up against Pakistan in the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday (June 9) at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York.
India was bowled out for just 119 runs, their lowest in the T20 World Cup history (when all out). Pakistan, who were in must-win territory, bowled superbly to dismiss India for that cheap score.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma came out to bat as India was sent in by Babar Azam after winning the toss. But both of them departed early. Kohli was out for just 4 runs and Rohit departed for 13 runs. Rishabh Pant was the sole fighter for India with the bat.
India were 89 for 3 at one stage but then crumbled like house of cards. Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav and others got dismissed cheaply as the Pakistan bowlers dismantled India's middle order. In the end, they were just bowled out for 119 runs with an over to spare.
Pakistani pacers were excellent with the ball. Naseem Shah picked up three wickets (3/21) and was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan. Haris Rauf also managed three wickets while Mohammad Amir picked up 2 wickets. Shaheen Afridi also got one wicket in his name.
Pakistan made a decent start but Babar Azam was dismissed after scoring 13 runs. Despite looking comfortable in the run chase, Pakistan was always behind the asking rate. The middle overs pulled the game back in India's favour as Pakistan scored only 26 runs and lost 3 wickets from the 11th to the 15th over.
Usman Khan was sent back by Axar Patel while Hardik Pandya dismissed the dangerous Fakhar Zaman. Jasprit Bumrah got the crucial wicket of Mohammad Rizwan and Pakistan crumbled under pressure as Shadab Khan followed soon.
In the end, it was too much for the Pakistan lower order as they could only manage 113 runs and India won the match by 6 runs.
India: 119 all out in 19 overs (Rishabh Pant 42, Axar Patel 20; Naseem Shah 3/21, Haris Rauf 3/21)
Pakistan: 113/7 in 20 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 31, Imad Wasim 15; Jasprit Bumrah 3/14, Hardik Pandya 2/24)
Result: India won by 6 runs
Player of the Match: Jasprit Bumrah (3/14 in 4 overs)
India batter Rishabh Pant was the highest scorer with 42 runs off 31 balls. He hit 6 fours in it.
Three bowlers picked up 3 wickets each in the match, Pakistan's Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. But it was India's Jasprit Bumrah with the best spell of 3/14 in the match.
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "We bowled well. In the batting, lost back to back wickets and had too much dot balls. Tactics was simple to play normally. Just strike rotation and the odd boundary. But in that period we had too many dot balls. Can't expect much from tailenders. Our mind was to utilise first overs in batting. But one wicket down, and again we weren't up to the mark in first six. Pitch looked decent. Ball was coming on nicely. It was a little bit slow, and some balls extra bounce. Have to win last two matches. Will sit and discuss our mistakes but looking forward to last two matches."
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): We didn't bat well enough. Halfway through our innings we were in good position. We didn't put enough partnership there and fell 15-20 runs short with the bat. We spoke about every run matters on a pitch like that. With a bowling lineup like that you feel confident to do the job.
We wanted to make early inroads but couldn't do that. Halfway through the stage when they were batting, we got everyone together and said that if it can happen to us, it can happen to them. Little contribution from everyone can make huge difference. He's going from strength to strength.
(on Bumrah) We all know what he can do. Not going to talk too much about him. Want him to be in that mindset throughout the WC. He's a genius, we all know that. Crowd was superb. They never disappoint wherever we play. I'm sure they'll be going home with a big smile. It's just the start, we have a long way to go.
"We didn't bat well enough. At the halfway stage we were good, but we didn't bat well in the end. We were 15-20 runs short but the bowlers came and did the job for us. We thought 140 would be a fighting score with the bowling lineup we have.
We were only 119 on the board and we didn't make early inroads. But we came back in the middle overs. Little contributions makes difference and that's what exactly happened.
(On Bumrah) I am not going to talk too much about him. He is a genius.
"I think we thought 120 was a winnable score. We were run a ball in the first ten overs. Tactics was to play normally and rotate the strike. But we had too much dot balls and put pressure on us. We wanted to play simple but weren't up to the mark in the first six overs. We couldn't capitalize properly. It was a decent pitch but some balls were stopping a bit. We have to sit and talk but looking forward to the next two matches."
It feels really good. We felt we were a little under and the wicket got a little better after the sun came out. We were really disciplined so it feels good. Tried to hit the seam as much as I could, tried to be as clear as I could with my execution and it all came out well so I felt happy. Felt like we were playing in India, really happy with the support and that gives us energy on the field. We focus on the now. We've played two games and played really well. You stick to your processes and look to play well.
