India vs Pakistan: T20 World Cup match sees new Drama; PCB, BCB demand India Tri-Series

By MyKhel Staff

In a stunning twist amid the ICC-Pakistan row over the Champions Trophy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appear to have reversed course.

Previously vocal about hesitancy to face India due to bilateral tensions, both boards are now aggressively lobbying for an India-Pakistan-Bangladesh tri-series, fueling fresh PCB-BCB intrigue. The shift emerged from a marathon tripartite meeting in Lahore between ICC, PCB, and BCB representatives, as reported by Cricbuzz.

India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match sees new Drama PCB BCB demand India Tri-Series

Sources indicate PCB and BCB demanded not just a restored bilateral series with India for Pakistan and Bangladesh alike, but a full-fledged tri-nation showdown. This comes despite PCB's earlier public stance against playing India in the ongoing hybrid-model tournament, and BCB's own diplomatic hurdles with India, which ousted them from the T20 World Cup.

India vs Pakistan: Boycott to Acceptance

Pakistan's reluctance peaked with threats to boycott India matches in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were replaced by Scotland after refusal to play in India.

Earlier, PCB made three demands to ICC, but all for Bangladesh. BCB, facing its own India series uncertainties amid geopolitical strains, joined the chorus. Yet, insiders reveal both boards pushed hard for the tri-series during Lahore talks, signalling a pragmatic pivot or opportunistic bargaining.

ICC deputy chair Imran Khwaja and UAE director Mubashir Usmani (virtually) witnessed the negotiations, but much groundwork happened in Dubai and Mumbai. While ICC prioritizes the Members Participation Agreement (MPA) and neutral venues, it can't enforce a tri-series involving India, that power rests with the BCCI, aligned to India's government.

With PM Shehbaz Sharif set to greenlight PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi's stance post-meeting, an announcement looms, potentially by day's end, ahead of the February 15 Colombo clash.

As per ICC, the India vs Pakistan match is a crucial one and the officials have worked tirelessly to make it happen. Despite the Pakistani drama, which cast significant doubt over the future, it seems the flagship encounter will get its justified game time.
