India Champions defeated Pakistan Champions by 5 wickets to clinch the title in the inaugural World Championship of Legends tournament - WCL 2024 on Saturday (July 13) at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, England.
After disciplined bowling effort helped restrict Pakistan to 156/6 in their allotted 20 overs, Ambati Rayudu’s fifty as well as cameo from Gurkeerat Singh Mann saw India home in the run chase with 5 balls to spare.

Robin Uthappa (10 off 8 balls) and Suresh Raina (4 off 2 balls) departed inside powerplay, but Rayudu (50 off 30 balls) shared a solid stand of 60 with Gurkeerat (34 off 22 balls) to steady the ship and take India closer to 100.
Once Gurkeerat and Rayudu fell in quick succession to spinners, Yusuf Pathan (30 off 16 balls) and skipper Yuvraj Singh (15* off 22 balls) overcame the spin threat to see their side get closer to the target with a stand of 42 runs from 34 balls.
From there it was just a formality as Yuvraj and Irfan Pathan (5* off 4 balls) saw India home in the final over as the Men in Blue celebrated the title triump in the first edition of World Championship of Legends.
For Pakistan, Aamer Yamin was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 29 runs, Wahab Riaz (1 for 22), Saeed Ajmal (1 for 25) and Shoaib Malik (1 for 17) claimed a wicket each in a losing cause.
Earlier opting to bat first, Pakistan lost Sharjeel Khan (12 off 10 balls) and Shoaib Maqsood (21 off 12 balls) inside powerplay. However, Kamran Akmal (24 off 19 balls) and Malik (41 off 36 balls) took Pakistan to a respectable score with the help of late cameos from the lower-order.
While skipper Younis Khan (7 off 11 balls) and Aamer Yamin (7 off 4 balls) failed to make telling contributions, Sohail Tanvir scored a handy 19 not out off 9 balls to take Pakistan to 156/6 at the end of their 20 overs.
For India, the bowlers controlled proceeding with Anureet Singh (3 for 43) ending as the top wicket-taker followed by Vinay Kumar (1 for 36), Pawan Negi (1 for 24) and Irfan Pathan (1 for 12), who all claimed a wicket each and helped keep Pakistan run-scoring in check.
