IND vs PAK, World Cup 2023: Fans angry on social media for no telecast of pre-match show

By MyKhel Staff

The high-octane and much-awaited ICC World Cup 2023, India vs Pakistan, was marred with controversy before the first ball of the game as fans expressed their anger on social media over the show.

The sentiment of nationalism ran strong among a bunch of fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, as the show wasn't aired on TV or on the OTT platform by the official broadcasters. We take a look at some of the fans' reactions.

A few hours before the match, Star Sports, who have the rights to show the match on both platforms, made the announcement that there won't be any Live telecast of the show that saw the likes of Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh, Sukhwinder Singh among others perform. The announcement didn't sit well with the fans, who made their grievances heard on X, formerly Twitter.

There has been a lot of hullabaloo in the build-up to the India vs Pakistan match as PCB threatened not to play the World Cup at all after the Asian cricket body (ACC) stripped them of the hosting rights. ACC, headed by BCCI general secretary Jay Shah, reasoned India won't travel to Pakistan for the tournament and that's why they will shift the Asia Cup to a neutral venue.

However, after a lot of lobbying from PCB, the tournament was co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the latter hosting all the Pakistan matches, including their matches against India. India eventually went on to lift the trophy by steamrolling Sri Lanka in the final as Mohammed Siraj starred with a six-wicket haul to bundle out the host for just 50 runs.

The India vs Pakistan match for the ICC World Cup 2023 is set up well with both teams winning their first two games to take the winning momentum. India, however, will be at an advantage as the over 1-lakh Indian fans showed up for the game.
