India vs South Africa 1st Test Probable Playing 11: India and South Africa will commence the final phase of the ongoing tour as the two teams collide in the first of the two Test matches on Tuesday (December 26).
India are currently sitting at the summit of the WTC 2023-25 points table with a PCT of 66.67 after playing two matches. South Africa, on the other hand, will start their new WTC cycle journey with the two matches against India.

India have made wholesale changes to their Test squad compared to the white ball teams. Big guns like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are back in the mix and are fit to play. There has been an injury blow in the Indian team as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out with an injury, and Abhimanyu Easwaran has replaced the opener.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will contest for the all-rounder spot but both players may feature whereas KL Rahul is almost certain to play ahead of K.S. Bharat as the custodian behind the stumps. It is to be seen who opens the bat with Rohit Sharma as either Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal may have to bat at no. 3, most likely the former.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma is also back after his break following World Cup 2023 and is ready to lead the side. Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada are included but the pacer duo are struggling with niggles and are still doubtful to feature in the Boxing Day Test.
