A double blow has struck the Indian cricket team as two bowlers have been ruled out of the Test and ODI squads respectively.
Mohammed Shami is ruled out of the Tests, while Deepak Chahar, who was originally selected for the ODIs, is also ruled out due to a family emergency.

Mohammed Shami, India's leading pace spearhead, is currently recuperating from an ankle injury. The star bowler was included in the Test squad but was subject to fitness clearance, but it seems Shami's injury will take longer than expected and thus the pacer will miss out the two-match Test series.
The 33-year-old's absence is a significant blow to the team's fast bowling attack as they prepare for the upcoming two-match Test series. Shami was unable to join the rest of the Test team members who have already departed for the South African tour.
Apart from Shami, there are five other pacers in the India Test squad. Mohammed Siraj is expected to spearhead the line along with Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur.
Before the two-match Test series, India are set to play an ODI series of three matches, which starts from Sunday. But ahead of that, there is further bad news for the visitors.
India's ODI team will also be missing a crucial player as Deepak Chahar is set to return to the country. Known for his ability to swing the ball, Chahar's absence could be a setback for the team's bowling dynamics. Chahar is withdrawn from the ODI squad due to a family medical emergency.
Bengal's promising seamer Akash Deep has been called up to the squad as a replacement for Chahar. This is the first national call-up for the Bengal bowler as he will join his fellow Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar in the ODI squad.
