India are up against South Africa in their first of the three Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday (February 22) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This will be a repeat of the 2024 T20 World Cup final, as India look to continue their dominance over the Proteas. The two teams have been placed in Group 1 along with West Indies and Zimbabwe.

India and South Africa both have won four matches in a row in their group stages. The two teams qualified for the Super 8 as respective winners of their groups.

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, have been dominant, boasting a perfect group record. Their batting firepower remains lethal, but there's focus on opener Abhishek Sharma's form after three ducks in a row, and potential tweaks for balance. Washington Sundar might make way for Axar Patel to add left-arm spin variety and batting depth, especially against South Africa's left-handers. Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy form a potent pace-spin duo, with Arshdeep Singh providing swing upfront.
South Africa, captained by Aiden Markram, rely on a blend of experience and youth. Their pace trio of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen will target India's top order, while spinners like Keshav Maharaj offer control. Batters Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton, and David Miller provide stability, with emerging talents like Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs adding flair. Team news suggests Corbin Bosch or similar all-rounders for balance, with emphasis on practicing against left-handers like India's openers.
