India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I Full List of Awards Winners: The Suryakumar Yadav-Gautam Gambhir era got off to a winning start as Sri Lanka choked to a 43-run defeat in the first T20I in Pallekele on Saturday, July 27.
Sri Lanka were 140/1 in 14 overs in the 213-run chase but were bundled out for 170 in 19.2 after the fall of Pathum Nissanka's wicket on the first ball of the 15th over. The opener scored 79 off 48 balls and stitched two crucial partnerships which gave India a major scare.

However, the Sri Lankan innings collapsed soon after his departure on the first ball of the 15th over. Axar Patel picked two wickets, while Riyan Parag picked three wickets for India.
Earlier in the match, India piled up 213/7 after being asked to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 off 21) and Shubman Gill (34 off 16) gave India a flying start before captain Surakumar Yadav (58 off 26) hammered a 22-ball fifty. Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who was introduced as late as the 12th over, picked four wickets for 40 runs in four overs.

Most Sixes Award: Pathum Nissanka for hitting four sixes - USD 1000

Suryakumar Yadav (India captain and Man of the Match): They were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one. They were keeping the tempo, credit goes to them. We know how the wicket plays in the night. We were fortunate that there was no dew. The way we played in the World Cup, that reminded us that the game was still too far. (Left-right combination to be persisted?) Whatever works for the team, we'll take the call.
Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka captain): We were not up to the mark in the powerplay, but in the latter part, we came back pretty strong. Some stage, we thought they might get to 240, we did well. Little disappointed with the way the middle-order batted, we could have done better. (On the balance of his side) It's an experiment, this is the way we should go in the future.
Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of the Match for 16th time in T20Is and equalled Virat Kohli's record for most Man of the Match awards in the format. Kohli won 16 Man of the Match awards in 125 T20Is, while Surya achieved the feat in his 69th T20I game only.
