Bengaluru, August 5: India off-spinner R Ashwin on Saturday (August 5) took five wickets against Sri Lanka on the third day of the second Test in Colombo for his 26th five wicket haul in Test cricket.
With this, Ashwin went past Harbhajan Singh who has 25 five wicket hauls in Tests. Now, only leg-spin legend Anil Kumble is in front of Ashwin and the Bangalorean has 36 fifers from 132 Tests.
While Ashwin's feat came in his 51st Test match, Harbhajan took 103 matches for the same.
Former captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev has 23 five wickets hauls from 131 matches.
There is another record for Ashwin. The TN spinner's tally of 26 is way ahead than former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis (12) and former England all-rounder Ian Botham (19) at the same number of Tests.
Ashwin currently has 284 scalps in Tests from 51 Tests (one innings remaining in the second Test), and former Australian pacer Dennis Lillee has the next best tally after the same number of matches - 269.
