Sri Lanka were humiliated once again as they stuttered once again and failed to chase a paltry 138-run target despite cruising at 110/1 at one stage. After the scores were tied, Sri Lanka got all-out for two in the Super Over and lost the series 3-0 in Pallekele on Tuesday, July 30.
Sri Lanka were in need of just 30 runs off the last 30 balls with nine wickets in hand to earn a consolation win against India in Pallekele, but the hosts embarrassed themselves once again by somehow managing to score 29 runs and losing eight wickets in the process.

The Super Over encounter after the scores were levelled turned out to be even more embarrassing. Sri Lanka lasted three balls from Washington Sundar, before losing the permitted two wickets for two runs only. Moments later, Suryakumar Yadav swept the first ball from Maheesha Theekshana towards fine leg where a misfield felicitated a boundary and series whitewash for India.
India spinners were mighty impressive in the match. Rinku Singh (2/3) and Suryakumar Yadav (2/5) bowled the 19th and 20th overs respectively as Sri Lanka were held to 137/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Washington Sundar, who picked two wickets in the Super Over, registered figures of 2/23 in four overs earlier in the match. Ravi Bishnoi also picked a couple of wickets, while Riyan Parag leaked just 27 runs from his four overs.
Washington Sundar (Player of the Match): "(For staying cool under pressure) All the work I did, blessings from God helped me. I wanted to try and stay calm. Very grateful to SKY for throwing the ball to me. Very grateful to get an opportunity. I just need to do what I am supposed to do. We did a bit of homework against their batters. I had to hit the right lengths."
Riyan Parag (India all-rounder): "I was disappointed, should’ve batted till the end and probably could’ve got 160. But great effort to 130 and the way we bowled was great. Wanted to keep it (bowling) very simple, it’s easy to get carried away (on a wicket like this). It was about keeping it stump to stump.
"I just had to keep it simple. I’ve been working on the leg-break, tried it in domestic, had some net sessions and it was coming out well. Surya bhai told me to go for it and it came out well. It was fun, we didn’t feel the nerves, we planned it in such a way that it was very spontaneous. Thought Siraj was going to bowl that last over and Surya bhai decided to roll his arm over. That’s our motto, we play hard but we have fun as well."
Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka captain): "I am really disappointed about our batting line-up, middle-order and lower middle-order. Very bad shot selection was the reason. Spinners were bowling that's why Hasaranga came up the order. He had the license to hit one or two boundaries, that didn't happen.
"Wrong shot selection on this pitch. Definitely (it was gettable), we need to do more as professional cricketers. I want to see good batting performances in the ODIs. Our top three and four have done well and that's the only positive for us."
Suryakumar Yadav (India captain and Player of the Series): "More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30/4, how the boys showed character, 140 was a par score on that track. I told, if we put our heart in, we could pull it off. The amount of skill they have, self confidence, it makes my job easy.
"The positivity, the care for each other is unbelievable. After the last game, I told few boys will be rested and they were ready to sit out. They have made my job easy. I have little pressure when I bat. Like I said before the series, I don't want to be the captain, I want to be the leader."
