India vs Sri Lanka Squad Updates: India's squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour has been named on Thursday (July 18).
Rohit Sharma is set to lead the Indian team in the ODIs while Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain for the T20Is. Along with that, Virat Kohli is also included in the ODIs. Hardik Pandya is only named in the T20 squad.

The three shocking omissions of the India squad are-
Abhishek Sharma: The Indian batter did well in the Zimbabwe tour and perhaps should have been included in the T20 squad.
Mukesh Kumar:Despite picking 8 wickets in just three matches, Mukesh Kumar hasn't made the squad in either format.
Ruturaj Gaikwad:Ruturaj Gaikwad has also found no place in either squads despite having a decent outing in the Zimbabwe tour.
Shubman Gill has been named as the vice-captain for both formats. He will deputize Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs and T20Is respectively. Hardik Pandya will be part of the T20I squad but only as a player.
Rohit Sharma (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, Harshit Rana.
Suryakumar Yadav (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohd. Siraj.
The squad for the Sri Lanka tour is set to be announced soon today.
The meeting is over and Suryakumar Yadav is set to lead the Indian team in the T20Is. Rohit Sharma is available for the Sri Lanka tour and will captain the team in ODIs.
Mohammed Shami is still not fit. Hence the India pacer is set to miss out on the tour. Selectors are likely to pick Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, while Arshdeep Singh is set to make a return to the team as well.

Shreyas Iyer had an outstanding World Cup 2023 for India. He scored 530 runs in the tournament and scored 2 centuries and 3 fifties. But the batter lost his spot in the team after failing to prioritize domestic cricket amid a legitimate injury issue. He also lost the BCCI central contract but rallied back from adversities in style.
Iyer led KKR in magnificent fashion as the Knight Riders won the IPL title after a decade. With Gautam Gambhir at the helm, Iyer has been tipped to make a return to the team and it will be a deserved one as well.
T20I Series
1st T20I - July 27
2nd T20I - July 28
3rd T20I - July 30
ODI Series
1st ODI - August 2
2nd ODI - August 4
3rd ODI - August 7
The meeting has started at 5:30 pm IST. The BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar along with others are conducting it. Gautam Gambhir is also likely to be present.
A huge report coming is that Virat Kohli has made himself available for the ODIs. The Indian batter is spending vacation in London with family but has decided to return for the ODI matches.
The three-match ODI series starts on August 2 and all of the matches will be played in Colombo.
Yuzvendra Chahal was in the T20 World Cup squad but never played a match. He was subsequently omitted from the Zimbabwe tour. But the leg-spinner may be handed an opportunity in the ODIs against Sri Lanka.
Ravi Bishnoi is set to lead the Indian leg-spin department in the T20 format but Chahal may be back in the ODI fold.
Riyan Parag is likely to find a place in both ODI and T20I squad. Sanju Samson is likely to have the same opportunity.
Sri Lanka haven't named their squads for the series either. The hosts will also have to find a new T20 captain after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down. It is to be seen how they shape up against India under interim coach Sanath Jayasuriya. The past year or so has been disastrous for Sri Lanka and they will be desperate to put up a strong challenge against the mighty Indian team.
After Ravindra Jadeja's retirement from T20 format, India will be aiming for his replacement in the format. Washington Sundar had a stellar outing in Zimbabwe and is the primary replacement. Apart from him, Shahbaz Ahmed will also be in the reckoning.
As the BCCI selectors prepare names for the T20 series, there will be certain names in the team who got a chance in the Zimbabwe series. Young batter Abhishek Sharma looks a certain name, while Washington Sundar as all-rounder is also a likely inclusion along with pacer Mukesh Kumar.
As per reports, Suryakumar Yadav can be appointed as the India captain not just for the Sri Lanka series, but he may continue till the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Abhishek Nayar is likely to accompany Gautam Gambhir in Sri Lanka. The former India all-rounder is set to be one of Gambhir's assistants in the Indian team and his stint is likely to start in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, there are still no confirmation on the bowling and fielding coach. Gambhir's recommendations have reportedly been rejected.
Gautam Gambhir will be looking to make a positive start to his stint as India's head coach. And we may see a few young names in the squad as well, especially in the T20 one.
Hardik Pandya, who is a candidate for T20 captaincy, is likely to miss out in the 50-over format. Pandya, who had a terrific outing in the T20 World Cup, can opt-out from ODIs due to personal reasons.
There is also a huge question regarding India's T20 captaincy. Although Hardik Pandya was the first choice, Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as a strong contender and it is to be seen who gets the nod in the Sri Lanka series.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul - two players who have been out of the Indian team for some time, are likely to return in the Sri Lanka series. The latter is also likely to captain the Indian team in the ODIs if Rohit Sharma is not available.
Although Rohit Sharma may feature, both Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah won't play any part in the tour.
India captain Rohit Sharma is likely to feature in the ODI matches against Sri Lanka. Although Rohit is currently spending vacation, he is set to come back to take part in the ODIs. With Gautam Gambhir at the helm, Rohit is likely to start the partnership with the new coach from the Sri Lanka Series.
India will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in Sri Lanka. The T20 series starts from July 27 and continues till July 30. After that, the ODI series will start on August 2 and conclude on August 7.
