Asia Cup 2023 Final: Sri Lanka bundled out for 50! Siraj takes six, Records Tumble

Sri Lanka has bundled out for just 50 runs in the Asia Cup 2023 Final against India on Sunday (September 17).

The Lankans chose to bat first after winning the toss but couldn't survive some amazing pace bowling from Mohammed Siraj, who rattled them with 6 wickets. Most of their batters faltered as they had no answer to Siraj's pace and swing in an overcast afternoon in Colombo.

India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 Final:

It was mostly a precision of batters getting dismissed as only two batters could score in double digits, while five players got dismissed for a duck. Kusal Mendis was the highest scorer for the Lankans with 17, while Dusan Hemantha scored 13 lower down the order. Siraj ended up with figures of 6/21 in his seven overs, while Hardik Pandya also picked up three wickets.

In terms of overall lowest numbers, this is Sri Lanka's 2nd lowest total in ODIs, just 7 runs more than their record against South Africa in 2012.

India vs Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2023 Final: SL out for 50

Let's have a look at some of the stats and numbers from this shocking collapse of Sri Lankan batting-

  • This is the lowest total by any team against India in the ODIs. Previously, it was Bangladesh who had the record when they got bundled for just 58 runs.

  • Sri Lanka's lowest total ever at their home. All of their previous fast surrenders have happened outside of the Island country.

  • This is also Sri Lanka's second double-figure score against India this year. They were bowled out for just 73 in Trivandrum in January.

  • 15.2 Overs - That is what it took for the Sri Lankan team to get bowled out. This is the 2nd fewest overs taken for a team to get bowled out in an ODI match.

  • Sri Lanka's 50 is the lowest total in the history of Asia Cup, previously held by Bangladesh when they scored 87 against Pakistan in 2000.

  • It is also the lowest ever in an ODI Final, which was previously held by India against Sri Lanka when they scored 54 runs in 2000.
