India vs West Indies: WI Hit 405/7 Against India as Campbell, Hope, Jangoo Score Centuries

West Indies produced a record-breaking batting display against India in the second ODI in Guwahati on Wednesday, piling up 405/7 in 50 overs to register their highest-ever total in men's ODIs.

John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all scored centuries as the visitors repeatedly breached the Indian bowling attack. The three centuries also made the innings only the sixth in ODI history to feature three individual hundreds.

The total eclipsed West Indies' previous ODI record of 389, scored against England at St George's in 2019. It was also the first time the West Indies had crossed 400 in an ODI.

India, who won the opening match of the three-game series, now face a target of 406 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

Campbell sets the tone with explosive hundred

Campbell provided the early momentum after West Indies were invited to bat first.

The opener raced to his fifty from just 29 balls, the fastest half-century by a West Indies batter against India in ODIs, and continued attacking as the visitors surged through the powerplay.

West Indies reached 50 in 6.1 overs and finished the first 10 overs at 96/1, with Campbell doing most of the damage.

He reached his second ODI century from 65 balls, making it the second-fastest hundred by a West Indies batter in the format. Campbell eventually fell for 101 from 68 balls, having struck nine fours and five sixes.

His dismissal came soon after reaching three figures, as he top-edged a pull against Gurnoor Brar to deep square leg.

Hope capitalises after two reprieves

Shai Hope then took charge of the innings alongside Campbell before continuing the assault with Amir Jangoo.

The West Indies captain had two significant reprieves during his innings. He was dropped on 15 by Kuldeep Yadav off his own bowling and survived another chance at 27 when Virat Kohli could not hold on at mid-wicket.

Hope made India pay for both opportunities.

He brought up his fifty from 53 balls before accelerating towards his century, reaching the landmark from 89 deliveries.

His 104 came from 94 balls, with eight fours and three sixes.

The century was Hope's 20th in ODIs, taking him past Brian Lara's tally of 19 ODI hundreds for West Indies. Only Chris Gayle, with 25, has scored more ODI centuries for the Caribbean side.

Hope was eventually dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, who forced the batter into a slog before Auqib Nabi completed the catch at third man.

Jangoo adds another century

Amir Jangoo continued the assault alongside Hope, forming a massive third-wicket partnership.

The pair added 182 runs before Hope's dismissal, with Jangoo maintaining a steady scoring rate before shifting gears late in his innings.

He moved from 59 off 54 balls to his century in just 16 deliveries, reaching three figures from 70 balls.

Jangoo eventually finished with 114 from 77 balls, striking 13 fours and three sixes.

His dismissal came shortly after reaching his century when he cut Ravindra Jadeja towards backward point, where Ruturaj Gaikwad completed the catch.

Jangoo's hundred completed an extraordinary sequence for West Indies, with Campbell, Hope and Jangoo all reaching three figures in the same innings.

Sixth ODI innings with three centuries

The three West Indies centuries made the innings only the sixth occasion in men's ODI history in which a team has produced three individual hundreds in the same innings.

It also underlined the extent of India's struggles with the ball.

Roston Chase and Shamar Joseph then provided the finishing touches, adding 36 runs during the final five overs to push West Indies beyond the 400 mark.

Chase finished unbeaten on 29 from 25 balls, while Shamar Joseph made 14 not out from eight deliveries.

West Indies eventually ended on 405/7.

Kuldeep reaches 200 ODI wickets

There was one significant milestone for India amid the run barrage.

Kuldeep Yadav claimed his 200th ODI wicket when he dismissed Keemo Paul, reaching the landmark in his 123rd match.

Among Indian bowlers, only Mohammed Shami reached 200 ODI wickets faster, doing so in 104 matches.

Kuldeep finished with 2/65, while Ravindra Jadeja also claimed two wickets but conceded 75 runs.

Gurnoor Brar took two wickets as well, but India's pace attack struggled to contain the West Indies throughout the innings.

Auqib Nabi has difficult ODI debut

Debutant Auqib Nabi endured a particularly difficult introduction to international cricket.

The seamer conceded 84 runs, registering the most expensive figures by an Indian bowler on ODI debut. He surpassed Karsan Ghavri's previous mark of 83 runs conceded against England at Lord's in 1975.

India will also have concerns over Naman Dhir, who bowled six overs before twisting his left ankle and limping from the field.

The injury adds another concern for India after an innings in which their bowling attack struggled to find consistent control.

India face record chase

West Indies' 405/7 leaves India needing 406 to win the second ODI and take the series.

It would require India to surpass their own highest ODI chase of 362, which came against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.

The conditions at Barsapara could offer some assistance to the chasing side, with dew expected later in the evening and the ground's relatively short boundaries and quick outfield potentially favouring the batters.

However, India have little margin for error after West Indies produced three centuries and crossed 400 for the first time in their ODI history.

The series currently stands at 1-0 in India's favour, but West Indies have put themselves in a commanding position in the second match with one of the biggest totals ever produced against India in the format.
