India didn't just qualify for the semi-finals - they rewrote their own World Cup history in the process. Powered by Sanju Samson's unbeaten 97 off 50 balls - an innings laced with 12 fours and four sixes - India pulled off their highest successful run chase in T20 World Cup history, hunting down 196 against West Indies at Eden Gardens.

Until Sunday night, India's best chase in the tournament stood at 176/4 against South Africa in Mirpur in 2014. That record now feels modest in comparison.
This 196-run pursuit is also the joint third-highest successful chase in T20 World Cup history. It equals the USA's 196 against Canada in the opening match of the 2024 edition. Only two higher chases exist in the tournament's record books - England's staggering 230 against South Africa in 2016, and South Africa's 206 against West Indies back in 2007.
It is also the highest successful T20I chase ever recorded at Eden Gardens.
For a venue soaked in history - including India's painful 2016 semi-final exit - this one will be remembered differently. Samson's 97 not out didn't just seal a semi-final berth. It placed India among the biggest chases the tournament has ever seen.
1. 230 - England vs South Africa (2016)
2. 206 - South Africa vs West Indies (2007)
3. 196 - India vs West Indies (2026)
4. 196 - USA vs Canada (2024)
On a night of pressure and expectation, India didn't just cross the line - they stormed into the record books.
