India vs West Indies: BCCI announce squad for T20 series; Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal gets maiden call-up

Indian cricket board (BCCI) has announced the squad for the India vs West Indies T20 series as the national team travels to the Caribbean islands for a full-fledged series soon. The Hardik Pandya-led squad will feature Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, who received their maiden call-up.

Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are the two designated wicket-keepers for the series while Shubman Gill is the lead opener Samson and Yashasvi. The middle-order features Suryakumar Yadav, Varma while the list of all-rounders includes Axar Patel and Pandya.

Among bowlers, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar are the lead pacers while Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi are the three spinners.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma were picked after an impressive show in the IPL 2023 with the Rajasthan Royals opener also finding a place in the Test squad earlier.

India will play five-match T20 series in West Indies with the last two matches are to in Florida, USA. The first match will be played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad while the next two matches will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Florida's Central Broward Regional Park Stadium will host the last two games.

India's T20I squad: Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Surya Kumar Yadav (VC), Sanju Samson (wk), Hardik Pandya (C), Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.

This is going to be India's first away tour of the 2023 season after playing series at home against Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Australia. Following the IPL 2023, India played the World Test Championship final in England, which they conceded to Australia on the final day.

India will play multiple big-ticket events this year including Asia Cup, Asian Games and ODI World Cup later this year, which will also be hosted by India.
