India vs Zimbabwe: Why did India Jersey have only One Star in it? Will it change in the Match Today?

By MyKhel Staff

A new-looked Indian team played their first match following T20 World Cup victory against Zimbabwe on Saturday (July 6).

Shubman Gill and his young troops lost the match by 13 runs in a disappointing start to the series. Although it is a brand new team, the defeat was disappointing as they couldn't chase a total of 116 runs.

India vs Zimbabwe

India secured their second T20 World Cup title on June 29 by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final. This victory made India the third team globally to win two T20 World Cup titles. After winning their 2nd title, a star is supposed to add to the jersey just over the BCCI crest. But the players wearing the shirt against Zimbabwe had only one star, which confused the fans.

Why did India Jersey have One Star?

The BCCI has not given an official explanation for why the jerseys have only one star. It is speculated that there was insufficient time between the World Cup final and the start of the Zimbabwe series to update them.

The jerseys were likely printed before the tour and distributed to players before their departure. As they are playing an away series, there hasn't been time to reprint and transport new jerseys to Zimbabwe. Hence that is the likely reason why the jerseys had only one star in them.

In the 2nd T20I on Sunday, Indian players are expected to wear the One Star jersey only. But the players may don jerseys with Two Stars in the final three matches of the series.
