Former India captain Sourav Ganguly says Indian women's cricket has developed more than men's cricket in the last few years.
Ganguly was the president of BCCI in the recent past and currently serves as the Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals. The former India captain was at the WPL 2024 auction and opened up about the development in women's cricket in recent times.

When asked about the state of women's cricket in the context of the WPL, Ganguly gleefully admitted that the women's team have taken bigger strides than men in the last five years.
"The progress that women's cricket in India has made since 2019 is perhaps more than the men's team. The men's team has always been very, very good. But from where the women's team was to where they went, from winning the Asia Cup, the way they played in the World Cups, then the Commonwealth Games. They were by far the best team in the Commonwealth Games," Ganguly said to JioCinema on the WPL auction day.
The 51-year-old also hailed the next generation of women's cricket for stepping up and believes there is no shortage of talent now in the women's department.
"To see them develop so much, Harmanpreet, Smriti, you name them, Richa, Jemimah, Shafali, the way they have progressed is impressive. When Jhulan finished, we thought where the next seamer would come from, and then the way Renuka Thakur has developed over the last three years. So, that's the best thing about women's cricket," he added.
He was also asked about the prospects of Delhi Capitals in the second season of WPL. The Capitals were by far the best team in the inaugural season but failed to cross the final hurdle as they lost against Mumbai Indians.
"It's too early to say. Let the tournament start. T20 cricket, you never know which way it goes. The best teams sometimes don't get there. It's about form, it's about momentum, so till it doesn't start you can't say where a team finishes. But as I said, we played well last year and lost the final. Hopefully, we can continue the form," Ganguly said.
