India World Cup Squad: Rohit Sharma celebrates his inclusion in press conference as Agarkar announces his name

Rohit Sharma was at his funniest best and celebrated his inclusion in the live press conference as chief selector Ajit Agarkar spoke out his name while announcing India squad for the World Cup 2023.

Rohit Sharma's name was first in the 15-member list and as soon as Agarkar said, "Rohit Sharma, captain", the 36-year-old raised his fist up in celebration, gave a broad smile before settling down and listening to the other names.

The star Mumbai batter would be leading India for the first time in a 50-over World Cup. He led India in the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

The upcoming World Cup 2023 also fulfills Rohit Sharma's dream to play a home world cup. The opener has gone on record to reveal multiple times that he was shattered after being left out of India's 2011 world World Cup squad. The MS Dhoni-led team has gone to win the trophy at home to bring an end to a 28-year-old wait for the coveted trophy.

Some guys will be disappointed, I have gone through it

“There are no surprises and you can only get 15 in. Some of the guys will be disappointed. I have gone through it and I know how it feels. We have good all-round options and this is the best 15 we could get,” Rohit was quoted as saying in the press conference after the announcement of the 15-member squad which missed the names of Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson among others.

“I have not thought about plans yet. Problem of plenty is a good problem to have. We have to see who is in form and who our opposition is. We need to see what the best possible combination could be. If someone misses out, then so be it. This keeps happening. You have to make tough calls for the team,” he added.

Rohit Sharma will be looking to end India's decade-long wait for an ICC trophy. India's first match in the World Cup 2023 is against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

India Squad for World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (VC), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj
