Indian cricket team fans were left livid after Gautam Gambhir shared a birthday post for Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq on Saturday, September 23. The former India opener rarely makes such birthday wishes on his social media handles and the post for the 24-year-old quick surprised many.
"Happy Birthday @naveen_ul_haq! There are very few like you. Never change!" read Gambhir's caption alongside a picture of him with Naveen-ul-Haq.

For those unaware, the IPL 2023 witnessed an intense on field verbal spat between Naveen-ul-Haq and India batting superstar Virat Kohli as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Gambhir is Naveen's mentor at LSG.
The altercation which started between Kohli and Naveen, ended with Kohli and Gambhir having a go at each other before several players and support staff from both the teams had to interrupt and diffuse the situation.
LSG captain KL Rahul had tried to initiate a truce between Kohli and Naveen but the latter had denied the offer. The verbal spat between Kohli and Gambhir happened after Rahul's failed attempt.
Naveen-ul-Haq did not stop there and shared a few cryptic Instagram Stories to take a dig at Virat Kohli.
"Treat people the way you want to be treated. Talk to people the way you want to be talked to," Naveen had captioned a picture with Gambhir back then. Gambhir had commented saying, "Be who you are !! 'Never Change."
Gautam Gambhir has since then been hooted and trolled regularly by Virat Kohli fans at the stadiums on the internet. Recently, it was reported that Gambhir showed the middle finger to fans who were chanting Virat Kohli's name in front of him during the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka.
Naveen-ul-Haq, who was not part of the Asia Cup 2023, has been picked in Afghanistan's World Cup 2023 squad. Fans are eagerly waiting for Virat Kohli to face the fast bowler in India's World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11.
