Indian players best in the world, they are better than us: Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed

By MyKhel Staff

After India thrashed Bangladesh by 86 runs in the second T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 9, pacer Taskin Ahmed said that the Men in Blue are the best in the world.

India were three down for 41 in 5.3 overs, but a 108-run partnership off 49 balls between Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh took them to 221/9 in 20 overs. Nitish Reddy, who was playing only in his second match for India, scored 74 off 34, while Rinku Singh scored 53 off 29.

Later, India restricted Bangladesh to 135/9 to register their biggest ever T20I win against the visitors and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

"There is no doubt that they (Indian players) are the best in the world, not only in their home conditions but all over the world. They are more experienced and better players than us," Taskin Ahmed, who picked two wickets for 16 runs in four overs, told the reporters after the match.

The pacer said the spinners could not bowl to their potential due to the dew factor, before adding that Bangladesh batters also failed to capitalise on a good scoring surface.

"In the powerplay, we did well, but they batted well in the end and, unfortunately, our spinners had a bad day. Normally, we don't have these kinds of bad days, but in T20 cricket, anything can happen," Taskin added. He cited the dew factor as a key reason why Bangladesh's spinners struggled to grip the ball and maintain control.

"The Delhi ground is known for high scores; the average here is more than 200. But unfortunately, we didn't bat well in both games. Both wickets were good for batting, but as a team, we didn't play to our full potential," Taskin added.

Taskin Ahmed also rued the dropped catch of Nitish Reddy by Litton Das when he was batting on five. He admitted that the dropped catch proved to be costly.

"A dropped catch is always costly, especially against an opponent like India, who are the best in the world. The margin of error is very small, and that was a costly mistake," Taskin admitted.

Bangladesh would now aim to avoid a whitewash when they face India in the last T20I in Hyderabad on Saturday, October 12. India defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the Test series and are now on the cusp of a 3-0 win in T20Is.
